Afro-pop sensation Nutty O and globally renowned songstress Gemma Griffiths are poised to headline the eagerly awaited 13th edition of the Shoko Festival.
This year’s Shoko Festival, operating under the theme #TheTakeBack, serves as a rallying cry for young Zimbabweans to reclaim their space and artistry, fostering a better future for all.
Nutty O and Gemma Griffiths are scheduled to take the stage at the highly anticipated Peace In The Hood concert, a traditional highlight and concluding event of the festival. The duo is expected to deliver spirited individual performances.
Over the past decade, Shoko Festival has established itself as the longest-running urban culture celebration, providing a platform for youth to showcase their talents and artistry within the arts industry.
The festival has consistently strived to ensure that emerging urban artists share the stage with prominent figures both in and beyond Zimbabwe. Shoko Festival, a Magamba Network initiative, has become a widely celebrated alternative for youth culture, showcasing cutting-edge and trendsetting segments.
The upcoming festival promises an electrifying three days of powerful music, thought-provoking talks, and uproarious laughter. International acts, including South Africa’s Xabiso Vili, the reigning World Poetry Slam Champion, and Botswana’s multi-award-winning Afro-pop artist, Jordan Mooz, are expected to captivate attendees with their performances.
Samm “Cde Fatso” Monro, the organizer of Shoko Festival, assured attendees of an inspiring edition filled with powerful music and comedy. “This year, we are giving the people an inspiring three days of powerful music, thought-provoking talks and riotous laughter. Join us to hear young people reclaim their voices and their art forms,” stated Cde Fatso.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, September 28th, at Moto Republik with Mash Up Night, featuring The Women’s Cypher—a live performance by talented female MCs including Young Gemini, Noluntu J, and Banshee.
On Friday, September 29th, REPS Theatre will host the popular Shoko Roast, promising an entertaining evening with the outspoken entrepreneur Kuda Musasiwa, also known as the Begotten Sun.
Nutty O and Gemma Griffiths will bring the festival to a close on Saturday, September 30th, with the Peace In The Hood concert, featuring other acts such as Bagga, Mycole Biller, and Hwinza.
