Inter Africa Buses Owner Accuses Close Friend of Fraud: “US$147,960 Misappropriated,” Claims Leonard Mukumba.
Gondo, who attends the same church as Mukumba, is said to have diverted funds totaling US$147,960 from a security deal with the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) without Mukumba’s knowledge.
The trial before Harare magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka has begun, with Mukumba alleging fraud against Gondo, who, along with his wife Diana Chigonga, co-directs Petridia Security (Private) Ltd with Mukumba.
Court proceedings revealed that Petridia Security secured contracts with ZPC totaling US$147,960 for the installation and commissioning of surveillance systems at Hwange Power Station.
Gondo allegedly misled Mukumba about payments from ZPC, subsequently removing him from the company’s directorship and bank account without consent.
When Mukumba discovered ZPC had fully paid for the contracts, Gondo purportedly denied the payments, prompting Mukumba to investigate further.
Gondo contends that Mukumba was temporarily a director of their company after a loan agreement, which Mukumba disputes due to lack of documentation.
Ephraim Zinyandu prosecutes the case, set to continue next Wednesday.
