Mental Health Patient Falls to Death from Kwekwe High-Rise

A tragic incident unfolded in Kwekwe, Midlands province, as a person with mental health challenges fell from a high-rise building on Friday morning.

Witnesses disclosed that an unidentified individual had ascended the four-storey First Mutual Centre building and later perched precariously on its edge, seemingly enjoying the sunlight. Unfortunately, while attempting to descend, the individual fell to their death.

A widely circulated video on social media captures the harrowing moment as the person, suspected to be struggling with substance abuse and homelessness, climbed the multi-storey complex located on Robert Mugabe Way in the city’s central business district.

It remains unclear how the shirtless individual, wearing only trousers, managed to bypass security measures to access the rooftop.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that a crowd gathered below, unable to intervene, as the person, clearly not in a sound mental state, lost their grip and fell to their demise.

As of the time of reporting, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) had responded to the scene and transported the deceased to Kwekwe General Hospital.
