Chinhoyi Mayor Owen Charuza and his driver narrowly escaped a severe road traffic incident near the Mapinga escarpment on Monday morning while heading to Harare for council business.

The council-owned Nissan Hardbody they were traveling in sustained significant damage when it was struck from behind by a haulage truck while yielding to a vehicle ahead.

While details remain limited, Chinhoyi Town Council spokesperson Tichaona Mlauzi confirmed the accident to The Herald.

Mayor Charuza, who sustained injuries to his hand, chest, and neck, was promptly taken to Mutorashanga Clinic for medical attention. Further information was not immediately available from provincial police spokesperson Inspector Ian Kohwera.
