Building Collapse in Harare CBD Claims One Life, Injures Six: ZRP Investigates

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has acknowledged the unfortunate incident in Harare Central Business District involving a building collapse, resulting in the loss of life for one individual and injuries sustained by six others.

The incident took place on Chinhoyi Street on April 6, 2024, approximately at 3:30 PM amidst a hailstorm.

ZRP’s national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, also mentioned that three vehicles parked in close proximity to the building incurred damages.

The deceased, identified as Yolanda Hodzi, an adult female hailing from Maridale, Norton, was formally identified by her immediate family members.

Assistant Commissioner Nyathi noted that the body of the deceased has been transferred to the mortuary of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a post-mortem examination, whereas the injured individuals have been admitted to the same medical facility.

The vehicles affected by the incident include a Mazda 323 with registration number AAW 5934, a Toyota Probox registered as AGE 8052, and a Toyota Spade registered as AGN 6805.

“The value of the damaged property is yet to be established. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is conducting investigations with relevant authorities, including the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to ascertain the cause of the tragedy.,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi conveyed.
