Entrepreneur Wicknell Chivayo has once again made headlines with a generous donation of US$1 million to the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Mbungo, led by a key ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Speculation surrounds the motive behind this significant contribution, with some suggesting it may be a gesture of appreciation for the church’s support during the August 2023 elections, where Mnangagwa secured a narrow victory over Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC).
Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, addressing attendees at the ZCC Easter Passover event in Bikita, Masvingo, confirmed Chivayo’s donation, stating, “There is this young businessman, Chivayo, who is doing great works. He donated some money to our church. It is a six-zero figure, US$1 million. We are quite happy as a church and that is a show of love and kindness.”
