A leaked voice note purportedly from businessman Wicknell Chivayo implicates President Emmerson Mnangagwa in various undisclosed dealings, including transactions related to last year’s voting materials.
In the audio, Chivayo boasts about his influence, suggesting that Zimbabwe is under his control due to his association with Mnangagwa. He mentions promises of substantial rewards from the President to associates if they cease opposition to his ambitions.
Chivayo mentions individuals like Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe, alleging that he deceived them in a voting material deal.
The leaked audio sheds light on Chivayo’s collaborations with Mnangagwa, hinting at lucrative agreements with government departments like immigration and the police.
“I have deals with the police, immigration, and many more. Keep collecting, do not be greedy, just bring new work. There is no need to be greedy, or try aiming high,” he asserts.
Chivayo positions himself as a key member of Mnangagwa’s inner circle and urges his associates to exploit his proximity to the President for financial gain.
“I am inside the President’s circle. Take advantage of that, do not eat from where I would have worked or from what caused problems for us in the past.”
Chivayo acknowledges past conflicts with Mnangagwa but claims reconciliation, emphasizing his wealth accumulation post-elections.
“I am at least 20 times richer than I was before the elections. You (Chimombe and Mpofu) are now below my level. We could have risen together but now you have to be patient.”
He proposes a three-month trial period for a new arrangement, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and idea-sharing as they approach the President.
