A Singapore Airlines Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence: One Passenger Dead, Others Injured

A Singapore Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence over the Indian Ocean, descending 6,000 feet (around 1,800 meters) in three minutes, leaving one British man dead and multiple passengers injured. The aircraft, en route from London’s Heathrow airport to Singapore, diverted and landed in Bangkok amid stormy weather.

Authorities suspect the 73-year-old British man suffered a heart attack during the incident. The sudden descent occurred during meal service over the Andaman Sea near Myanmar.

Emergency crews attended to the injured passengers, with seven severely injured and many others with moderate to minor injuries. Tracking data revealed the aircraft’s rapid descent, prompting an international emergency signal.

The incident underscores the dangers of turbulence in aviation, particularly clear air turbulence, which can occur without warning. The Transport Safety Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident, and Singapore Airlines is providing support to affected passengers and families.
