A Rwandan citizen was fatally shot during a home invasion in Harare on Friday evening, according to authorities.
Samuel Habimana was shot in the neck at his residence in Mainway Meadows, Waterfalls, where he lived with his wife, housekeeper, and their son, who is attending Form 1 at a local school.
Habimana and his wife were proprietors of 10 30-ton trucks and a grocery store in central Harare.
Upon returning home around 9:30 PM, the couple dispatched their 28-year-old housekeeper to retrieve groceries from their vehicle, as per police reports.
She hurried back inside, reporting the sighting of four individuals peering over the perimeter wall.
Shortly after, the intruders used a crowbar to forcibly enter through the kitchen door, which Habimana had previously locked.
“One of the robbers fired one shot which hit Habimana on the neck and he collapsed. The robbers searched Habimana’s trouser pockets and took an unknown amount of cash,” police stated in a report.
Allegedly, the assailants demanded money from Habimana’s 42-year-old wife, who handed over US$60, informing them that they didn’t keep cash at home.
Subsequently, the robbers seized her cellphone, the keys to the grocery store kept in her purse, and the CCTV digital video recorder before departing the premises.
