A friendly discussion about English football, particularly Arsenal’s performance, took a dangerous turn in Beitbridge when a soccer enthusiast was stabbed by an acquaintance, resulting in an attempted murder charge against Meluleki Ndlovu, aged 40.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on April 9, 2024, in the border town, where Ndlovu encountered the victim returning from a relative’s home.
“The two engaged in a casual debate over soccer, with a focus on Arsenal Football Club’s performance,” stated the NPA.
“The disagreement escalated, and the accused allegedly stabbed the victim in the stomach with a knife before fleeing the scene.”
The NPAZ emphasized the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, urging the public to refrain from resorting to violence.
Ndlovu appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate and the case was adjourned until April 26, 2024.
