NRZ Identifies Crew Members Killed in Train Accident

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has disclosed the identities of three crew members who lost their lives in a train incident on Monday night.

According to NRZ spokesperson Andrew Kunambura, the tragic accident took place between Mutare and Machipanda at approximately 9 PM. The train, en route to Beira port in Mozambique, experienced a brake failure, resulting in a runaway situation. This led to the train’s inability to navigate a sharp curve, causing it to plunge into a gorge and trapping the three individuals.

The deceased crew members have been identified as Engineman Tasunungurwa Mapuranga, Pride Femerepi, a security escort, and Enock Tawabarira.

At the time of the accident, the train was hauling 14 wagons loaded with 9 export chrome concentrates and 5 granite blocks. The NRZ is currently investigating the incident.

In their condolence message, the NRZ realesed the following statement, “The NRZ board, management and staff would like to express sincere condolences to the families of the hardworking, dedicated crew members who shall always be remembered by the Railways family.

Our thoughts are with their families and we pray for God to comfort and strengthen them in these very difficult times.”
