The Mashonaland East province police have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 12-year-old child from Murehwa, who was found inside a vending cooler box.
According to initial reports, the child went missing on February 3, 2024, while his father was socializing with friends at Musami Business Centre.
Upon returning from a business trip to Bindura, the child’s mother-in-law, Ms. Ester Mutetwa (62), who sells goods at Musami Business Centre, informed his father, Golden Gorembeu, of the disappearance of his son, Arnold Gorembeu.
It is alleged that Arnold Gorembeu mistakenly believed his son was still playing with friends at the business center and went to attend a memorial service in the nearby town of Chivhinge.
However, upon returning home the next morning, he discovered that his son had not returned. After enlisting the help of villagers to search for the missing child, he eventually reported the disappearance to Musami Post around 6 o’clock that same day.
Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, a police spokesperson for Mashonaland East province, confirmed the incident and expressed concerns that the child may have suffocated inside the cooler box.
