Opposition figure Job Sikhala faces a second conviction within a fortnight, this time for disseminating false information shortly after his recent release from prison. Initially, Sikhala had been found guilty of inciting violence, linked to the death of opposition activist Moreblessing Ali, but had avoided imprisonment with a suspended sentence. His current conviction centers on allegations of spreading falsehoods via social media about a police officer causing the death of a baby while enforcing road regulations. Magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka ruled that the state successfully demonstrated Sikhala’s connection to the Facebook page where the misinformation was posted, leading to his guilty verdict. Sentencing is scheduled for February 16th.
