Vince McMahon, Boss of WWE, Steps Down Amid Sexual Misconduct Accusations

Vince McMahon has resigned from his position as executive chairman and board member of TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE, following allegations of sex trafficking and sexual misconduct made by a former employee.

McMahon’s decision to step down comes on the heels of a lawsuit filed by Janel Grant, a former WWE headquarters employee, against McMahon, WWE, and the company’s former head of talent relations, John Laurinaitis.

According to legal documents, McMahon is accused of pressuring Grant into a “physical relationship in exchange for promised employment at WWE.” This alleged relationship involved forced sexual encounters, the sharing of private photos and videos, and coercing Grant into engaging in sexual relations with other WWE staff, including Laurinaitis.

The lawsuit details that in January 2022, McMahon disclosed to Grant that his wife, Linda McMahon, had learned about their relationship. McMahon purportedly expressed a desire to ensure Grant’s silence regarding his personal misconduct to protect his controlling interest in WWE. He suggested that Grant sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and offered to compensate her for it. Although an agreement was reached for a $3 million payment upon Grant signing the NDA, she claims to have received only $1 million, with the remainder withheld.

The legal action seeks a declaration that the NDA is invalid under both state and federal law, citing McMahon’s alleged breach of the agreement and involvement in sex trafficking. Grant asserts that she will provide evidence in a trial demonstrating the need for “lifelong treatment” due to the “pain and suffering” inflicted by McMahon.
